Membership FAQ

Who are the member donors of Impact100 Sonoma?

Impact100 Sonoma is open to all women age 18 or older who live in, or wish to support, the Sonoma Valley nonprofit community. Each $1,200 annual donation provides membership for one year's grant cycle.

Is my donation to Impact100 Sonoma tax deductible?

Yes. Contributions made by December 31 are tax-deductible for the year in which the donation was made. Impact100 Sonoma is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Why is the annual member donation $1,200?

It breaks down simply:

  • $1,000 goes directly to fund grants for valley-serving nonprofits—100% of it.
  • $200 goes to help cover essential operating expenses so that we can run effectively as an all-volunteer organization. It represents each member’s stake in our success.
We understand that we are temporary custodians of member funds and strive to take care of them responsibly. At 17%, our administrative rate is well below the 25% threshold that charity watchdogs like Charity Navigator consider efficient. The majority of that money goes to pay the license fees for our Foundant grant management software and for Wild Apricot, our online communications platform. We also retain the services of an administrator and a bookkeeper, both paid by the hour. While we often gather in venues belonging to other valley nonprofits, they are not free. We host small gatherings at member homes, but larger events require renting space. Food and wine are often donated or provided at reduced rates. These events are offered at no charge and are designed to help retain and recruit member donors, who enable us to maintain and grow our grants pool.

The full $1,200 is tax-deductible, and your investment helps us put every grant dollar where it belongs—into our community.

Can I charge my membership on a credit card?

Yes. You may pay with a credit or debit card via the Member Profile you will create online. You also can pay directly from your bank account, via check or installments.

My employer matches funds for charitable donations. Can I give $600 and have my employer match it to make my total $1,200 donation?

Yes. Businesses or employers can contribute any amount to an employee’s membership in Impact100 Sonoma. We also appreciate matching funds from employers and use those donations to help offset essential operating costs.

How can I join Impact100 Sonoma if I can't make the $1,200 contribution?

Learn about our Employee and Individual Sponsorship programs. We also have a Shared Membership program in which you and a partner split the individual membership fee of $1,200. As full members, both of you can attend meetings, participate in all activities, and join committees, but you’ll share one ballot to select nonprofit grant recipients.

If I contribute more than $1,200, do I get more than one vote?

No. Our founding principle is “one woman, one vote.” Additional donations are an essential part of helping to strengthen our organization today and sustain it for the future.

Once I join, how long is my membership in Impact100 Sonoma?

Each annual donation provides membership for the next calendar year. Women who donate by December 31 of any year are eligible to vote on grant recipients in the spring of the following year and qualify as members for the entire year. We welcome new members all year long, and no matter when they join, they immediately enjoy full member access.

What is required of a member?

Once you join, your level of involvement is entirely up to you. You can simply join and entrust your donation to the membership, participate in voting for the annual grant recipients, or become actively involved by serving on a Grant Review Committee, a standing committee, or our board of directors. Ours is a guilt-free organization! Every membership dollar is equal in serving our community.

How does Impact100 Sonoma stay in touch with members?

Impact100 Sonoma communicates with members primarily via email, social media, and the website. In addition, we publish a monthly online newsletter and host a variety of events throughout the year.

How can I support Impact100 Sonoma if I don't become a member?

You can become a Friend of Impact100 Sonoma and play a very important role in our organization. All Friend donations are tax-deductible. While it does not provide you with voting rights, your Friend donation can be designated to go toward the grants pool or support operations. You can donate HERE

Can men participate in Impact100 Sonoma?

Men are encouraged to become Friends of Impact100 Sonoma (see above) and may volunteer to help at activities and events. They may not become members.

May I bring my partner to meetings and events?

Most gatherings are either business- or recruitment-oriented or both and thus restricted either to members only (Annual Members' Meeting, Meet the Finalists) or to members and prospective members (Spotlight Speaker Series, Annual Garden Party, Grant Recipients Update Meeting, Annual Holiday Party). However, member partners and other guests are welcome at our Summer Patio Parties, Tuesday Night Market Meetups, Fourth of July Parade participation, and occasional other casual activities. Our Annual Grant Awards Celebration is open to the public. Invitations and newsletter announcements specify who may attend each event. Member partners also may volunteer to pour wine, guide parking, and assist with setup and breakdown at major events, and we welcome their involvement.
